Celebrating 10 Years of Inspire! A look back: 2022 Woman of the Year Angie Muhleisen

In 2022, Angie Muhleisen was honored with the Inspire Woman of the Year award in recognition of her outstanding professional achievements and remarkable contributions to the community. The award served as a testament to Angie’s commitment to excellence and the profound impact she made within her field and beyond.

At the time she was recognized, Angie was serving as the president and CEO of Union Bank & Trust, a position that was previously held by her father Jay Dunlap. She dedicated over 40 years of her career to UBT before stepping down in 2023. “I have absolutely loved every minute of being in business and I love Union Bank and I love the people who work there,” she said.

In her role as president and CEO of UBT, Angie was responsible for the organization’s culture, growth, financial performance, and succession planning. She successfully guided the organization through the ups and downs of the economy, and the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic, and helped to grow bank assets from $50 million to over $8 billion. However, she often said the bank’s success is due to the simple philosophy of caring about each other, the customers, and the community. This philosophy is demonstrated in the way associates treat each other and their customers like family, and give of their time, talents, and treasures to the communities they serve. Angie was unwavering in her dedication to the bank’s associates, promoting a healthy work- life balance. Over the years, the organization has also emerged as a substantial contributor within the community, donating millions of dollars to support the development of sports facilities, parks, and various other initiatives.

A native of Nebraska, Angie holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Avila University in Kansas City, Missouri. She is currently on the board of directors at Assurity and the chair of the University of Nebraska Foundation Board of Directors. Angie has served on numerous boards over the course of her career, including Lincoln Chamber of Commerce, Nebraska Wesleyan University Board of Governors, Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital, Bryan College of Health Sciences, UNL College of Business Administration Advisory Board, Lied Center for the Performing Arts Statewide Board, the Catholic Foundation Board of Directors, and the UNMC Chancellor’s Board of Counselors.

After her retirement, Angie’s son, Jason Muhleisen, assumed the role of president and CEO of the bank. This transition marked the fourth generation of the Dunlap family to lead a bank in Nebraska, and the third to head up Union Bank & Trust. Though Angie has stepped out of the day-to-day management of UBT, she continues to offer guidance by serving as a member of the executive committee and on the UBT Board of Directors. “Not only has she built one of Lincoln’s leading businesses, she has also built our community,” Jason Ball, president of Lincoln Chamber of Commerce, said in a statement. “It has been a pleasure to work with her and experience her consistent, thoughtful leadership.”
